Junius Pamphlet (Chapter 6)

Quote: Junius Pamphlet (Chapter 6)

German freedom, that same German freedom for which, according to the declaration of the Reichstag group, Krupp cannons are now fighting, has been endangered by this attitude of the social democracy far beyond the period of the present war. The leaders of the social democracy are convinced that democratic liberties for the working class will come as a reward for its allegiance to the fatherland. But never in the history of the world has an oppressed class received political rights as a reward for service rendered to the ruling classes. History is full of examples of shameful deceit on the part of the ruling classes, even when solemn promises were made before the war broke out. The social democracy has not assured the extension of liberty in Germany. It has sacrificed those liberties that the working class possessed before the war broke out.

Rosa Luxemburg in her writings exposes how the ruling class officials have taken for granted the liberty of working class to satisfy their political supremacy. The working class is continuously deceived into voting for war credits as a means in creating national unity among their society. The working classes were deceived by the ruling class that they were fighting for their freedom and rights. The ruling class were very aware that they had sold out the proletariat rights and freedom to for allegiance in engaging in a fair war.

I choose this quote because it reminds me how authoritative figure take advantage of the system for their own happiness. Those in power never like to get their hands dirty they always leave the dirty jobs for society to handle. It reminded me of elites in the dream story- Dr. Fridolin and Blue Angel- Professor Raff, how they try to encourage their followers(patients and student) the right paths to take and meanwhile, they are the one that are very exploitative in such bad manners. The quote reminds me of the “backstabber” Hitler that signed the treaty of Versailles in betrayal of German people.

  2. I completely agree with you, it is very sad but it is the ugly truth of politics. Those who take control or power over a society eventually abuse their authority just for their own personal satisfaction.

  3. Your narration of the passage was very well articulated. This system of dirty politics still continues today as the class struggles continue to hand the reins to the ruling class to sway the opinions in their favor. In today's capitalist society this practice has continued to favor the rich over the poor and as a result we have a lopsided society where the rich have gotton richer and the poor have gotton poorer.
